Your Facebook page is a great way to connect with your customers, leads and readers, but do your customers know you have one? If you want to build your followers and engagement, make sure you’re actually asking people to like your page.

You can:
- add a link and call to action to your email signature
- add the page address to your business cards and stationery
- invite your Facebook friends and clients to like your page (on your page, hover over ‘…More’ beneath your cover photo and click either ‘Invite Friends’ or ‘Invite Email Contacts’)
- add the Page Plugin to your website
The Page Plugin showcases your latest posts and a selection of your fans to encourage your site visitors to like your page and interact with your business on social media. It also lets people share your page without leaving your site.
Today I’m going to show you how to customise the Plugin and install it on your website.

How to customise the Facebook Page Plugin
Start by visiting the Page Plugin site.
Enter the URL (address) of your page and you’ll see a preview of how the plugin will look.
You’ve now got a few options to configure.
Tabs:
By default the Plugin will show your timeline, so visitors can see your latest posts. But you can choose to show your events and a contact form as well (or instead). To show multiple tabs, enter ‘timeline, events, messages’ or ‘timeline, events’. The tab names should be separated by commas.
Width & Height:
The default dimensions of the plugin are 340 x 500 pixels, but if you want to change that, enter different dimensions in the width and height boxes. Note that the plugin needs to be between 180 and 500 pixels wide and at least 70 pixels tall.
By default, the ‘Adapt to plugin container width’ box will be checked. This means the plugin width will change according to the size of the section of your site it’s placed in.
If your website is responsive (the layout changes and adapts to different device and screen sizes) you should definitely keep this box checked. And even if your site isn’t responsive, I’d still recommend keeping it checked; if you find it’s causing problems with your site’s layout you can always tweak your plugin’s settings later.
Header Size and Style:
If you want a compact plugin, check the ‘Use Small Header’ box. You can also check the ‘Hide Cover Photo’ box if you want the header to have a plain background instead.
Lastly, by default the plugin will show a row of profile photos so visitors can see which of their friends have also liked your page. If you want to hide this row, uncheck the ‘Show Friends’ Faces’ box.

How to add the Facebook Page Plugin to your website
Now that you’ve customised the plugin, let’s add it to your website.
Click the ‘Get Code’ button that’s underneath the plugin preview.
You’ll see two pieces of code.
Option 1 – Edit your theme files
Copy the first one and head over to your WordPress Dashboard. Go to Appearance > Editor and find your theme’s header.php file. Paste the code right after the opening <body> tag.
Tip: it’s a really good idea to backup your site before editing the theme files. Just in case!
Option 2 – Use a plugin
If you’re not comfortable editing the php files, there’s an alternative. There are several plugins available which add the code to your site’s header for you. Try Header and Footer Scripts or search the WordPress plugin directory for alternatives.
Now copy the second piece of code and paste it into your site where you want the plugin to appear. If you’re adding it into a page, use the Text Editor to paste in the code.
You could also add it to your site’s footer or sidebar by pasting it into a text widget. Go to Appearance > Widgets to set this.
