Fox + Finch Branding
Logo, website design, social media templates and more!
Did you know Fiona Robertson Graphics used to sell greetings cards? I like to send Christmas cards to my clients and prefer to design them myself than buy them in. Things kind of expanded from there and before I knew it, I had a whole range of cute cards, prints and gifts.
But after a while I knew it was time to change things up. With my cards and gifts having a totally different audience from my design services I needed to separate them out into a whole new business, and Fox + Finch was born.
I always say that designers make their own worst clients. We tend to fall into the ‘I’ll know it when I see it’ category and want to make endless revisions – the kind of behaviour that makes us groan when other people try it! But the F+F branding came together really easily. In fact, the hardest part of the whole thing was coming up with the name! Thanks need to go to Clare Crossan for her help in narrowing down the shortlist of suitable business names.
Almost from the first sketch I knew the direction it should take:
And with a bit of refining I had the finalised logo, comprised of two cute critters, Freddie the Fox and Benji the Bullfinch. I then developed a selection of submarks plus some patterns to use throughout the rest of the designs.
Next came the website. The main function of the site at the moment is brand awareness and a blog – sales are currently made either on Etsy or in-person at craft fairs, though at some point I will be adding eCommerce facilities to the site too. So I wanted to keep it simple and fast loading, yet by adding a sprinkle of background patterns (including some that change with the season) and a few pawprints courtesy of Freddie the Fox, it’s still fun and shows off the brand’s personality.
The work included a bunch of other designs too, from business cards to packaging, stickers to vouchers, and templates for blog and social media images – basically the whole enchilada!
