It’s time for another Networking for Beginners update, and since it’s been a while since the last installment, there’s a few updates to get through. Let’s get started.
Remember last time, when I had the possibility of a new project as a result of networking? It hasn’t happened yet, but it looks like it will! More on that later, when I have some details I can share.
I’ve also had several other enquiries from people I’ve met at networking events. Although these enquiries haven’t turned into actual projects, it’s gratifying to know that when I hand out business cards, people are keeping them and thinking of me when they need some graphics done. And if I keep turning up at networking events, surely at some point an enquiry will turn into actual work!
Confidence-wise, I’d say mine is definitely growing. The more networking events I go to, the easier I find it to speak to people. Of course, as I mainly go to the same networking group every month, it helps that each time I’m seeing some familiar faces. But I’m also finding it easier to speak to those people whom I haven’t met before. I’m now setting myself the challenge of going to different groups and events as well, so that I meet even more new people.
Finally, a little plug for my services. I’m just finishing working on a logo design for the main networking group I go to, Podium. The design was unveiled at the last meeting and went down very well! It’ll be appearing on Facebook and other promotional materials for the group soon. Although I did this pro-bono, I think that it was an excellent decision to get involved: it’s a great way of promoting my skills to the other members of the group.
Right, shameless plug over; see you next time!
